  • Climate Change: Rising sea levels, permafrost thaw, and increased storm intensity accelerate coastal erosion.
  • Canada to prevent coastal problems is listed
  • to draw attention to local communities' authorities and

Environmental organizations about the current state of coastal erosion.

  • Coastal erosion happens in Canada, Newfoundland, Labrador, and Nova Scotia, British Columbia.
  • The most severe wind erosion recorded in Canada occurred in the southern Prairies during the prolonged DROUGHT of the 1930s. Vulnerable soils were disturbed by tillage and blown in immense clouds, creating the "Dust Bowl." Erosion was sporadic and varied but surface lowering of 0.5 m in one storm was not uncommon.

  1. Susan, well done on your discussion post. My country the Czech Republic doesn't have any coastlines so it was nice to read up on a report about a country that does have coastal issues and rising sea levels. I think you did a very good job explaining the issues that Canada faces with its coast lines. Keep up the good work the rest of the semester and I will say I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts in particular as they are very informative and well written.

  2. Greetings Susan, great job on your post. It was very interesting to read all the insightful facts about your country of Canada. I found the point of fact concerning the most severe wind erosion recorded in Canada that occurred in the southern prairies during the prolonged drought of the 1930s to be of particular interest because I know this had an affect in the United States as well.
